My February Favourites

It is so hard to believe it’s the end of February, and beginning of March already. I feel like it was just Christmas, but the first two months of the year have already come and gone, and we’re well on our way to spring! But because it’s officially the end of February, that means it’s time for my monthly favourites for February 2020 - so let’s get into it:

Eco-Friendly Phone Cases

After taking my trip to Hawai'i, one thing that became even more important to me is being more eco-conscious. I’m not sure if everyone knows this, but in Hawai'i, since July of 2018, plastic bags are absolutely not a thing there, and you’re required to purchase a reusable bag at any store, of course unless you show up with a reusable bag of your own. Being eco-friendly is really important to them, and that’s something that struck a chord with me given that it’s already something I was passionate about. Something I purchased for myself is a Pela Case. It’s completely compostable, and made from plants! Meaning that there will be no harmful effects on the planet from purchasing one of these cases, and of course, no plastic which is amazing! The case is really durable and a lot stronger than you would think, considering it’s made of plants.

Noise Cancelling Headphones

These headphones were an absolutely lifesaver while flying from Hawai'i. I wore them on the flight there as well, but I had a daytime flight on our way there, so it wasn’t nearly as bad, but our flight leaving Honolulu ended up being delayed until 2:30am, so of course I was absolutely exhausted. I ended up being able to get some good shut eye on the flight to Vancouver from Honolulu because these headphones blocked out most of the airplane humming. No, they’re not perfectly noise-cancelling, but I’d say it filtered out 95% of it, and made for a comfortable flight home and allowed me to get some sleep.

Eco-Friendly Lunch Items

Bamboo Lids & Glass Containers

Like I mentioned above, eco-friendly products are becoming more and more important to me and my lifestyle. I originally already had the glass containers, but I had plastic lids that I desperately wanted to replace with bamboo lids that Ikea also sold. Not only are they eco-friendly, but they look so trendy and nice (yes, I’m always thinking for the gram, haha). The only thing I’d say about these lids, is if your bag rolls all over the place, I’d make sure you have a bento box elastic to keep the lid on your container, and I’d also opt for the rectangular container over the round one, since the elastic will stay on better.

Reef-Safe Sunscreen

Another big thing in Hawai'i is using reef-safe sunscreen. Even if you’re not swimming in the ocean, it is recommended to use the reef-safe options to make sure you’re doing what you can to protect those reefs that are of course, around the islands. If you don’t know the difference between reef-safe sunscreen and what isn’t, a quick Google search will go a long way in giving you some insight, but the short version is that oxybenzone and octinoxate are contributing to coral bleaching, which kills off entire reefs, meaning that fish have to move along to another reef to call home. It’s really heartbreaking to see, so if you’re traveling anywhere that you plan on spending any time in the ocean, pick up some reef-safe sunscreen. In Hawai'i, there are labels on the ones that are reef-safe to help you out in your decision making!

Blue Light Glasses

Quay Australia Blue Light Glasses

My last monthly favourite for February is my blue light glasses from Quay, but really, any blue light glasses. If you don’t already own a pair of these, I highly suggest picking up a pair to keep on you for whenever your eyes start to hurt. Most of us are always looking at screens, whether it’s a desktop computer or laptop for work, looking at your phone or watching TV at home, screens are a big part of our lives, and occasionally I get some pretty wicked eye strain from it. I always make sure to keep a pair of blue light glasses at my desk, beside my bed & in my purse or bag, so that no matter what, if my eyes start to hurt, I can throw them on and feel far more comfortable.

That’s all for this months favourites! Is there anything you’re currently loving this month or do you agree with anything on this list that you’re currently loving? I hope everyone enjoyed and inspired you to think about your monthly favourites. See you on Friday for my first ever unboxing of the Jilly Box! Xo.
