Holiday Decorating Five Ways

It is so hard to believe it is already December! 2019 seems to just be absolutely flying by - I swear, it feels like it was just New Years Eve a couple of months ago. They say time goes faster & faster as you age, but I wasn’t expecting it to go this quickly! On a less ominous note, let’s talk about Christmas decor. Like I said, it’s December now, so I don’t feel like everyone will be beyond infuriated with me for talking about Christmas, and decorating for it. Much like I’ve mentioned before, I absolutely love decorating for holidays, and Christmas is probably my favourite of all. We have so many decorations in my home, that it takes us almost two days of putting them all up, and probably about a day and a half of taking them all down - so it’s safe to say, the last thing I need is more Christmas decor. Well… I’m embarrassed to say, I almost always pick up a little something here and there - I can’t help it! Especially because I can always seem to find something that will compliment our current decor.

Since I should definitely not be buying any more decorations, I’ve made a list of my decorations that you can buy, so I can live vicariously though anyone who buys some decor this year, and quite frankly, through this blog post too! I’ve included not one, not two, but five different styles of decor, since not everyone’s cup of tea is the red and green… but it is definitely mine, so let’s start there!

Traditional Christmas

1. Lamp Post with Garland | 2. Snowflake Lumbar Pillow | 3. Mailbox | 4. Wreath | 5. Farm Fresh Christmas Trees Sign | 6. Faux Fur Stocking | 7. Red Jingle Bells Napkin Ring | 8. Moscow Mule Ornament | 9. Beaded Snowflake Pillow | 10. Sled Serving Board | 11. Snowglobe | 12. Beaded Snowflake Pillow | 13. Snowman & Spoon Mug Set | 14. Nutcracker | 15. Candle | 16. Snowflake Doormat | 17. Hot Cocoa Ornament | 18. Gold Sparkle Deer

If you’re anything like me, I’m such a sucker for a traditional Christmas look of the greenery and the pops of red. There’s not much that I like a traditional style for, but Christmas is definitely the exception. As much as I love the traditional colours, I’m also someone who appreciates a little sparkle, so I like to add a little glittery piece here and there throughout. I prefer to use gold over silver to create a warmer feeling, and to be perfectly honest, just because I generally like it more, but silver works as well, depending on your personal preference.

* Tip: As much as I love some sparkle throughout my decor, with this style I like to keep the textures more natural, and aligned with a farmhouse look. Working in some red & white gingham, burlap & wood patterns and textures will help to keep that natural look. An easy way to add these textures is with things like wooden bead garland, burlap ribbon or maybe even some white & red gingham bows.

Winter Wonderland

1. Beaded Snowflake Pillow | 2. Beaded Snowflake Coasters | 3. Blue Santa | 4. Frosted Snowflake Wine Glass | 5. Winter Wonderland Tray | 6. Penguin Family Snowglobe | 7. I know not everyone is super into the traditional colours of Christmas, or maybe you find it too much work to put all of those decorations up to only really last until January 2nd, which I must say I completely understand that - it is a lot of work for such a short amount of time. The perfect happy medium is a Winter Wonderland look since the overall look is far more winter, obviously, rather than Christmas. Decor with this theme and colour palette is much easier to leave up from November right through until the snow melts, and you can remove more Christmas specific pieces like Santa, and of course your tree when the holidays are over.

* Tip: I’d generally recommend staying away from gold-tones if you choose to decorate with a Winter Wonderland theme, and that includes using cool-white lights over warm-white to make things appear more snowy & sparkley. Warm-white gives a more cozy feeling, which is not a bad thing, but if you’re deciding embrace winter in your decor with blues & whites, cool-white light is definitely a better to choice to stay cohesive with your theme.

Glitterful & Colourful

1. Shimmer Star Tree Topper | 2. Fa La La Garland | 3. White Wreath | 4. Candle | 5. Ornament Pack | 6. Sequin Stocking | 7. Gold Crown | 8. Ice Cream Ornament | 9. White Christmas Tree | 10. Gold Beads | 11. Bottlebrush Tree Set | 12. Hot Air Balloon Ornament | 13. Macaron Tree | 14. Retro Village Tray | 15. Light Up Reindeer Pillow | 16. Gold Lantern

This style is definitely one for people who don’t love the traditional Christmas look at all, but of course still want to decorate for the holidays. The nice thing with this look is you can add pretty much whatever bright colour or colour combination that you want - you can choose to go with different shades of pink, purple or green, or even combine colours like bright pink, teal blue & deep purple. Pretty much everything looks great together. If you’re not sure what colours you like, you can look up some basic colour theory and figure out what you like best, and looks the best together! This style is also a great option for those who like to add some decor to their kids bedrooms since it’s easy to add some of their personality to the pieces, while still feeling very Christmasy.

* Tip: Changing up the traditional Christmas tree with a white one will allow you to have a blank canvas to add as many pops of colour as you’d like. I mentioned plenty of fun colour combinations above, but if you’re wanting to channel a little bit of a traditional Christmas style but with a twist, a great colour combo is bright green, bright red & silver.

Rustic Woodland

1. Beaded Tree Pillow | 2. Balsam & Cedar Candle | 3. Faux Fur Tree Skirt | 4. Silver & Gold Ornament Set | 5. Woodland Deer | 6. Pinecone Ornament | 7. Wood & Gold Bead Garland | 8. Faux Fur Stocking | 9. Beaded Pinecone Lumbar Pillow | 10. Wooden Ornament | 11. Flocked Christmas Tree | 12. Tree Salad Plate | 13. Snowflake Serving Board & Knife | 14. Pinecone Wreath | 15. Pinecone Garland

I’d say this style is for those who generally like the traditional Christmas look, but aren’t necessarily a big fan of the red. Quite honestly, this was exactly how I felt a few years ago! Turns out, I just didn’t like how much red we had in our decor, so we toned it down a bit. However, if I ever was to change up my Christmas decor, this is probably the one I’d go for since it is rustic, and pretty close to the farmhouse style that I generally like for my holiday decorations, featuring lots of natural elements & textures like pinecones, wood & faux fur.

* Tip: Decorating with woodland and rustic elements are also another great long-term look that isn’t necessarily Christmas-specific as well. Of course, after Christmas, you can take down your Christmas tree and ornaments, but a lot of these pieces can stay up throughout the winter to embrace the winter forests throughout the season.

Boho Chic

1. Pom Pom Wreath | 2. Advent Calendar | 3. Cheese Assortment Ornament | 4. Initial Stocking | 5. Candle | 6. Stocking Holder | 7. Sloth Ornament | 8. Pom Pom Ribbon | 9. Feel All of the Feelings Ornament | 10. Be Merry and Bright Pillow | 11. Pom Pom Tree Skirt | 12. Quirky Angel Tree Topper | 13. Deer Vase

The last style that I’ve put together is another great one for people who aren’t super big on traditional Christmas looking decor. Unlike the Glitterful & Colourful look above, this boho look incorporates more of the traditional colours, just with a different style - for example, the Be Merry and Bright pillow. But, this also showcases tons of other colours like bright blue, mustard yellow & even purple, which is great for people who already decorate their homes in this style, and don’t want their Christmas decor to be too far from what they already have.

* Tip: This is also a style that is super easy to mix with whatever metal you like, and even looks great if you mix all three metals together in various places! (Ex. a gold tree topper with a base of silver & rose gold ornaments)
