Holiday Home Decor Tour

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVE EVERYONE! And Happy Holidays to those who don’t celebrate Christmas! It’s insanely hard to believe we’re already at December 24th, but I’m very much looking forward to a couple of days off from my full time job. Now, I must tell you, one of my absolute favourite things about this time of the year is giving gifts to my loved ones. Of course, just like anyone else, I enjoy getting gifts, but I honestly much prefer to give gifts to my family and friends, which is what the season is all about after all! Another thing that I love at this time of the year is decorating, which I’m sure you’ve all figured out at this point based on the amount of times I’ve mentioned how I love to decorate for the holidays - in fact, I’m pretty much my department at work’s in house decorator for birthdays & holidays, haha.

But truly, my favourite holiday to decorate for is Christmas, probably because the season is just so full of joy, and coziness, and there’s nothing I enjoy more than feeling super cozy. During this time of the year, my favourite thing to do is go home, turn on the Christmas tree in my room (yep - I have a tree in my room, which you will see as you scroll down through this blog), put on my softest & warmest pajamas, make a cup of hot chocolate, and get all snuggled in bed while watching a Christmas movie. Really, if that’s not your favourite thing to do at this time of the year, what are you even doing that could possibly be better?! Now, let me show you guys how I like to make my home festive, comfy & cozy for the most wonderful time of the year:

Living Room

The living room is probably the most decorated room in our home - obviously because that’s where the Christmas tree lives, and where we spend most of our time as a family. Other than the tree, we love to add decorations to our coffee table, like a seasonal candle display with garland, some light up village pieces to our side table, as well as Christmas pillows, a warm blanket and it wouldn’t be Christmas in my home without a few old-school knick knacks hanging around too.

As much as I absolutely love when everything is super cohesive - as you may have seen in my blog post from a couple of weeks ago, Holiday Decorating: Five Way - our family tree has tons of unique and individual ornaments all over it. We use red and gold ornaments as our base colour, but once that’s been done, we have a plethora of themed ornaments that we add, like my collection of Star Wars ornaments, Disney themed ones, baby photos of my cousins and I, even some from when my mom was a child. We even include some food-themed ornaments. I personally love this so much - it adds a ton of personality to the tree & reflects my family, but also, you don’t really notice how personal it is until you get close, so it still looks like it all matches with the rest of the decor.

Dining Room

In our dining room is where we feature our Christmas village on our buffet that my family have been collecting over the years. It used to be much bigger before we moved & didn’t have as much space! This is probably one of my absolute favourite things that we put up for Christmas, other than the tree & the garland that runs down our staircase (see below). In my home, it doesn’t really feel like Christmas for me if those decorations haven’t been put up for the year.

The Christmas decor in the dining room definitely doesn’t end with just the village. With the Christmas tree up where my bar cart normally lives in the living room, we move the bar cart into the dining room, and cover it with Christmas lights, trade out the normal glassware for snowflake covered wine glasses & lowball glasses, and it wouldn’t be a Christmas cocktail without my go-to Smirnoff Peppermint Vodka added to the mix. Check out my blog post Four Holiday Drinks to Sip On if you haven’t already for a couple of recipes featuring that vodka!

In addition to all of this, we also swap out our usual table cloth for a festive option, add some Christmas themed faux florals, bring out the Christmas tree salad plates and we even switch out our everyday cutlery to some seasonal ones that feature little snowmen on the bottom. Christmas is really quite the affair in my household, and it’s mainly because of me - sorry, family! Lastly, it wouldn’t be Christmas without our dear little stuffed-Santa watching over us in the dining room.

My Bedroom

Yeah, I actually have a 6 foot tall, hot pink Christmas tree that I put in my room. I really love the holidays, so of course I have to bring some of the festivity into my room! I know I’ve mentioned before that I’m more into a traditional Christmas look, and that is completely true but I mean… c’mon it’s a giant hot pink Christmas tree! I used to be super into pink to the point where I bought a hot pink tree (and it was only $100!) Don’t get me wrong, I still love pink but I probably wouldn’t have bought the tree if I was looking at it this year, practically speaking. That being said, I still absolutely love this tree, and I love turning the lights on when I get home from work every evening.

In addition to adding the bright pink Christmas tree, I swap out my polka dot duvet cover for a winter looking flannel set, along with some flannel sheets - my room gets really cold, and like I said, I love being nice and warm and cozy. I also love to add some smaller pieces like little bottle brush trees, fake snow, decorative deers and a Christmas scented candle like my Jillian Harris x Etsy candle, Winter Love, that Jillian Harris created in collaboration with Brand & Iron last year. It smells exactly like a Christmas tree, and I’m obsessed! I’ve actually had it out since early November, I love it that much.

Around The House

You didn’t think our decor was limited specifically to certain rooms, did you? Well, if you did think that, I’m sorry to say that you are very wrong. I love adding decor throughout the entire house, including in places like the hallway and on the stairs. I basically like to make my home feel like it’s a Christmas wonderland, and no matter where you go, there will be a hint of the season for you there.

For as long as I can remember, my family has hung the garland up the handles of the staircase and decorated it all with lights, ornaments, birds, bows & everything between. This is another one of my favourite decorations that we do - it just makes me so nostalgic of my childhood, and brings me endless amounts of joy, and comfort. As much as it’s time consuming, it’s also really fun to decorate, and honestly, not complicated at all - we’ve even started adding some decorative stockings down the stairs to add even more decor to it.

And that is what my home looks like during the holidays! I hope you all enjoyed getting a little glimpse into how insane I must make my family with all of these decorations, haha. But I know I’m not the only one who loves decorating like this for Christmas, so if you’re like me, please let me know and leave a comment. Until Friday, everyone! Xo.
