My Favourite Holiday Movies to Watch this Season

Is there really anything better than being cuddled up on the couch during the holiday season with a big blanket, sipping a big cup of hot chocolate & watching a cheesy holiday movie? If you ask me, I’d say no, absolutely not. The only thing that would make it better is adding in a cuddle with Freddie! There are so many awesome Christmas movies out there - some older & nostalgic, and some newer but put you right into the Christmas spirit. Today, I wanted to share with all of you some of my favourite Christmas movies to watch the moment the season kicks off!

The Santa Clause

I had to start this list off with my absolute, all-time, favourite Christmas movie ever, The Santa Clause. This movie brings me right back to my childhood, sitting on my grandparents couch with the tree all lit up and watching this movie. I insist upon watching it every single year, and even though I can watch Christmas movies year round, I reserve this one specifically for December.

Elf

We all know this had to be on the list, right? Who doesn’t love Elf?! Actually, husband really, really hates it… but the fact that he’ll sit with me and watch it anyways, shows how much he loves me. It’s kind of hard to believe that this movie is now TWENTY years old, but it’s still one of the best Christmas movies, ever in my opinion!

The Christmas Chronicles

The Christmas Chronicles is one of those movies that is a newer addition to my must-watch list, given that it came out in 2018, but it has the feeling of the nostalgic, classic holiday movie but with the modern camera quality. For me, the biggest highlight of the movie was the fact that Santa has two Bernese mountain dogs! 😉

Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer

Another classic Christmas movie that you can’t go through the holiday season without watching is, of course, Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. Is it a long movie? Nah. Is it a great movie? Absolutely not. Is it nostalgic and lovely and cozy as heck!? Absolutely, YES. This is a movie that just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, so of course I have to watch it yearly.

How The Grinch Stole Christmas

You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch, but what a great movie you are! Now, I know there’s going to be a lot of debate on whether the live action or the cartoon Grinch movie (and I mean the classic cartoon, not the one that came out a few years ago) is better, and I’m without a doubt, team classic cartoon. It’s a great movie for kids too since it’s not super long & they can sit through it without getting antsy – I know that’s why I loved it as a kid, haha!

The Princess Switch

Shoutout to Netflix for this gem of a holiday movie! I remember wanting to watch this when it came out a few years ago, but I forgot to bring my iPad with me on the train (I was going to visit my husband, who was my then boyfriend, when we weren't living in the same city for a brief period of time), and I saw the girl in front of me on the train had it playing on her laptop with subtitles on. I was definitely thankful for that! It’s definitely not a cinematic masterpiece, but hey, it puts you in the Christmas spirit, and there’s three of them!

A Christmas Prince

Ahhh, a Christmas Prince. Another movie that is nowhere near a cinematic masterpiece, but always puts me in the best holiday mood. Since there’s now three of these cheesy but adorable Christmas movies, I always find myself watching them every year and wishing Aldovia was a real place that I could go visit.

What’s your favourite Christmas movie to watch!? Let me know in the comments below. There’s always cute new holiday movies coming out every year, and I’m always updating my list of must-watch holiday movies, but since I value your time… I won’t list every single one!

Until next time, Emily
