My Thoughts On Rare Beauty

Boy am I late to the party with this blog post, but you know how the saying goes - it’s better late than never! Let’s start with a little back story — I’m actually a pretty big Selena Gomez fan. I think she’s a fantastic role model, carries herself with a lot of grace & I mean, I don’t think anyone can deny that she’s absolutely stunning even in the most natural makeup. So, when I heard she was coming out with her own makeup line, I was pretty excited.

If you’ve been following for a while, you’ll know I made the switch to clean beauty products earlier this year, and I actually did an entire blog post about it: Making The Switch To Clean Beauty Products, so I didn’t have a lot of expectations as far as her line being considered clean went, making me think that I was unlikely to want to even buy anything from the brand. Well, while the company isn’t considered clean, they’re free of a ton of chemicals that I wanted to get away from! I figured, hey, this pandemic is making it that I don’t wear as much makeup as I did before, so let’s give a try. I ordered two of the Lip Souffle Matte Cream Lipsticks, a blush & the sponge to give it a try. No, it’s not a lot but I do have some thoughts on them that I’d like to share with you!

Soft Pinch Liquid Blush

$26 CDN | 7.5mL of Product | 8 Colours

Let’s start with the Blush — I was never a big wearer of blush. I always found it’d disappear after a couple of hours and quite honestly, I just didn’t really see the point if that’s what was going to happen. When I saw that this was a liquid blush, I was excited but nervous to give it a try, but oh am I so glad I did! The formula is so pigmented, the massive bottle of blush you get is sure to last you a very long time - you only need the tiniest dot to get a ton of colour pay off. That being said, really pay attention to not go too heavily on it or you will look like a clown! The blush lasts all day when set with powder which is a huge selling point for me, and quite frankly, it’s gotten me to start including blush into my makeup routine (whenever I actually do my makeup, haha).

Lip Souffle Matte Cream Lipstick

$26 CDN | 3.9mL of Product | 12 Colours

Moving onto the Lip Souffles — they are probably one of the creamiest textured lip products I’ve ever tried that weren’t a balm, and don’t leave your lips dry, crusty or cracking, which to me, is an absolutely huge win. I’m beyond obsessed with the bright fiery red colour that they included in the selection, and the colour pay off once again is really nice with the lip souffles. There is a downside for me though, and that’s that I find the product doesn’t last as long as I’d like it to, so it’s definitely something that I’d need to reapply throughout the day. Due to the creamy texture & the fact that it doesn’t dry down like a liquid lipstick does, it definitely is more susceptible to coming off throughout the day.

Liquid Touch Multi-Tasking Makeup Sponge

$18 CDN | Quantity: One Sponge

Finishing off this post with my thoughts on the Beauty Sponge. You might think that’s a bit of a boring product to review, and when you compare it to the actual makeup, of course it is, but hey, it’s a tool you need to apply the fun stuff! The sponge is a really great bang for your buck option in my opinion. Going from a $26 CDN BEAUTYBLENDER to this was a bit of an adjustment as the texture of the sponges are quite different, but the application is far superior for the lower price in my opinion. It definitely applied my foundation more evenly & smoothly, and the corner shapes are perfect for getting under your eyes. Overall, if you’d like to save some money on your makeup sponge, I’d say go for this one.
