My Spring Beauty Routine
With the warmer weather so closely upon us, I’m now getting into the time of year where I live to revamp my beauty routine. There’s something about spring, heading into summer that makes me not want to wear as much makeup… oh, yeah, right. It’s that dang heat! We all know that with the warm weather comes a sweating, feeling clammy, and just really not wanting to wear a ton of makeup on our face. Today, I’m breaking down all of the ways that I care for my skin, starting with washing my face & ending with SPF products, during the warmer months of the year.
Skincare
This goes without saying, but I always make sure to keep up with my skincare routine. Wash in the morning, wash in the evening. No matter what time of year, you should be doing exactly this. I do however find that my skin changes a lot from winter to summer. In cold months, I generally experience a bit more dryness, but in the summer I’m as oily as can be. When doing my skincare routine in the warmer months, I also like to add more SPF product than I do in the winter — and yes, you should wear SPF no matter what time of the year.
THE ROUTINE
1. Cleanse my face with my Rodan + Fields Unblemish Refining Acne Wash.
2. Using a reusable cotton pad, apply Rodan + Fields Unblemish Clarifying Toner all over my face.
3. With my ring finger, I lightly dab some of my OLEHENRIKSEN Banana Bright Eye Creme under both of my eyes & across the brow bone.
4. Apply one pump of Rodan + Fields Unblemish Dual Intensive Acne Treatment moisturizer all over my face.
5. Apply a pea size amount of Rodan + Fields Unblemish Invisible Matte Defence Protection gel all over my face.
6. Apply two fingers worth of Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 Facial Sunscreen all over my face, ears and neck.
Makeup
Like I mentioned before, during the warmer months of the year, I like to keep the amount of makeup I put on pretty minimal, and I usually end up using quite a few powder products, given that my skin can get very oily. If you’ve read my blog before, you know that I like to keep my makeup cruelty-free, vegan & clean if I can. Sometimes it doesn’t always work that way, but for the most part, anything I put on my skin, I try to ensure is all of these things.
THE ROUTINE
1. Once my face is washed, I like to use the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Concealer (this concealer is no longer in production, link is to the Tarte Hydrocealer Concealer) in lieu of foundation all over my face, and blend it in lightly.
2. I then apply a small dab of my Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in Happy to my upper cheek bones & on my nose (this gives the appearance of being out in the sun!)
3. To add a bit more dimension, I lightly apply some Tarte Sea Breezy Cream Bronzer just under my cheekbones, along the hair line and along the jaw line, and blend it in.
4. To lock everything in place, I apply some Cover FX Perfect Setting Powder all over my face.
5. I then add a bit of highlighting to my features with my Cover FX Gold Bar Highlighting Palette. Using a small brush, I add some highlight to the tip of my nose, along the middle of my nose, my cupids bow and on my cheekbones.
6. Once my face makeup is complete, I move onto my eye-area. I start by brushing out my eyebrows, and then filling them in with the Rare Beauty Brow Harmony Pencil & Gel.
7. If I decide I want to wear eyeshadow, I’ll apply a thin layer of concealer to prime, then create an eye look with my Lawless The Little One Eyeshadow Palette.
8. To finish off the eyes, I use my Tarte Sea Surfer Curl Mascara. A cheaper alternative is the Covergirl Lash Blast Clean Volume Mascara.
9. Before moving onto the last step, I like to protect my lips using the Coola Tinted Lip Balm SPF 30 in Nude Beach to add some colour & protect from the sun.
9. As a last step in my makeup routine, I apply another SPF product – the Coola SPF 30 Makeup Setting Spray to ensure I’m protected from the sun, and the best part is it can be reapplied throughout the day without ruining your makeup!
So that’s my beauty routine as soon as the warm weather hits! Like I mentioned before, there’s nothing worse than feeling cakey, and oily in the summer, so I like to keep it relatively simple and light. Thanks for reading along!
