The Hype Around Natural Deodorant

Over the last few years, you may or may not have noticed a sudden increase in the conversation around deodorants, why antiperspirants aren’t the best option, and why you should make a switch to a natural deodorant. At the end of the day, you have to research, and do what feels best for you, whether that's going with antiperspirant or making a switch natural deodorant.

I’ve been wearing deodorant rather than antiperspirant for pretty much the entirety of my life. Something about antiperspirants never really seemed to do anything for me, and I never gravitated towards them, but the main reason I decided to switch to natural deodorant is because many of the drug store brands are not cruelty-free. If you’re new here, I’m exclusively cruelty-free (and mostly vegan) when it comes to skincare, makeup, haircare as well as in my bath & body products. So making the switch to a cruelty-free, natural deodorant was a must for me.

Side Effects from the Switch

Many people I know have attempted to make the switch from their favourite drug store antiperspirants to a natural deodorant and couldn’t end up going through with it because they noticed they started to really smell bad. This happens to a lot of people, then they abandon the switch entirely & go right back to their beloved antiperspirant. If this sounds like something you’ve been through as well, you are most definitely not alone. Since I didn’t wear antiperspirants beforehand, I didn’t experience these “side effects” myself, but there’s definitely a bit of an adjustment. Antiperspirants stop you from sweating, so what does your body do when you stop blocking the sweat glands? Release everything! So yeah, you’re probably going to smell a bit for probably a couple of weeks. If you ask me, now’s the perfect time to do it since most of us are at home!

My Favourite Natural Deodorants

Since I’ve been using natural deodorants (or at the very least, aluminum-free deodorants!) for quite some time, I’ve gone through quite a few trials & errors while finding one that works for me, and it depends on what stage you’re at in this process too! Here are a list of some of my personal favourites:

Making the switch to a more natural, cruelty-free deodorant was a really great choice for me, and I hope this blog gave you some insight into natural deodorants if you were thinking about making the switch as well! If you’re already on a natural deodorant that I haven’t listed, drop the name below — I’m always looking for new things to try!
