Happy New Year! Goal Check In & Update

HELLO, WELCOME BACK TO MY BLOG AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!! 2020 is FINALLY behind us, and here’s hoping we move into a more positive 2021! I hope everyone had a lovely holiday season, and enjoyed tons of delicious food, presents & hopefully, some time with family if you could safely do so.

Let’s jump right into the topic at hand — if you don’t remember, or weren’t following along then, back in January of 2020, I posted a blog entitled My Goals For 2020, and as you can guess, I wrote out my goals for the year. Well, it’s that time to recap those goals, see what I achieved and set some new goals for the upcoming year!

Let’s Review My Goals For 2020…

Invest In My Blog

Though I thought I’d invest in my blog a bit more than I did, I can say this was a success overall. Monetarily, I decided to launch a monthly newsletter, and soon, I’ll be upgrading my laptop so it goes quicker. I also invested more time into my blog this year including upping my posts from 2 to 3 blogs a week, a full redesign, as well as new pages including the Shop Emily’s Faves pages.

Commit To My Skincare Routine

Okay, honestly, this one I fell off the bandwagon a bit. I hit a point where I figured I wasn’t leaving the house so why wash my face, but I finished the year off with a bang and committed to my routine again. All in all, I’d say this was a success.

Continue With Healthy Eating

Ah, my first fail on the list. I definitely did not continue with healthy eating, and in fact, I’m struggling to get back to it. Since I moved in with my boyfriend, it became much easier to eat quick meals, which aren’t always the most healthy, and I’ve gotten pretty bad when it comes to how much water to drink… but hey, it’s alright! You can’t win ‘em all.

Make A Habit Of Going To The Gym

L O L - remember being able to safely go to a gym?! Me too! Well, I think it’s safe to say this was also a fail, but not because of my laziness (though I’m sure any other year, it would be exactly that reason). We can all blame the pandemic for this one being a total bust.

Travel More

Another big L O frickin’ L here. Well, between getting temporarily laid off in March, to you know… that whole coronavirus pandemic & travel being pretty much entirely shut down, we’re finishing off this recap on another big fat fail. Oh well — like I said, you can’t win them all.

Goals For 2021

Now, let’s talk about this year's upcoming goals! I think it’s safe to say most of us want to achieve the goal of going back to our normal lives, get a safe vaccine for COVID, and be able to see friends & family again - believe me, me too. But that aside, let’s talk about some more realistic goals that I’ve set for myself given that I can’t see the future, so I don’t know if we’ll be “back to normal” this year.

Put My Phone Down More

I know I’m not the only one reading this blog who falls victim to staring at their phone all day. It’s such a bad habit, and I’d love to reduce my screen time. To hold myself accountable, I’m going to put my current screen time average, and then next year, when I check in, I’ll post my screen time then!

Spend Less Money On Things I Don’t Need

Ugh, this one is going to be hard for me. I’m a self-diagnosed shopping addict, and especially for Jillian Harris collaboration items. Is this something that I’m going to get perfectly? No, that I can promise. But, can it be improved? Absolutely! We all need to treat ourselves sometimes, but the goal here is to treat myself a little less than I normally would.

Invest More In My Blog

Yep, I’d like to invest even more in my blog this year. Specifically, I’d love to upgrade to a higher quality camera, or higher quality lens. I’m currently using a Canon Rebel T3 (cringe), and though I definitely don’t need a $5000 camera, it’d be nice to have some slightly better quality photos for you all to enjoy.

Get Back Into Healthy Eating

Much like the whole spend less money goal there, this one is definitely one that won’t be “perfect”, and we all need to treat ourselves sometimes! But generally, it’d be nice to step away from the quick & easy meals (aka, lots of pasta), and drink more water again!

Move My Body More

Lastly, I’d like to get up and move more. With working from home, and not having to run all over my office, I’ve definitely become more sluggish than I was this time last year. I notice my back hurting a lot more and it’s overall not a fun feeling. With having Freddie to walk everyday now, I’m hoping this will help, but it’d be nice to get back into some weekly yoga, and maybe eventually it’ll become a daily thing.

Here’s hoping that 2021 brings us all a little more happiness than 2020 did. Though it wasn’t an entirely crappy year — I travelled to Hawai’i, I moved in with my boyfriend & I got my dream puppy — overall for the entire state of the world, it wasn’t great. What goals are you setting for yourself this year? Leave them in the comments below, or keep them to yourself if you so wish, hahaha! Don’t forget to sign up for my newsletter before leaving, and I’ll see you again Wednesday for a new post.
