An Update on The Wedding Planning Process

It is hard to believe that we’re less than a year away from our wedding at this point. Honestly, I feel like we just got engaged like, two weeks ago! But the wedding planning process is in full swing, deposits have been made, decisions have been made, and we’re fully in this thing!

To start, I must say, WOW - weddings are really expensive. I personally feel like my fiancé and I are doing this in a relatively affordable way, and it’s still costing us a pretty penny. I know ultimately that it’ll be worth it, but if there’s one thing I feel confident in, it’s that the moment you say “wedding”, the price goes up substantially. With all of my complaining out of the way, let’s talk about how the wedding planning is going!

What’s been booked?

My fiancé and I had no interest in waiting until 2023 to get married, so we made the decision for 2022 (the actual date will be revealed post-wedding), regardless of if that meant having a wedding at a venue or just going down to City Hall. Luckily, once we selected our date, we did end up finding a venue that had availability. So safe to say, the date & venue is all locked down!

We’ve also been able to secure an amazing photographer for our special day, and I’m truly so lucky that Jon allowed me to pick the photographer as he and I have very different definitions of ideal editing styles. I like light & airy, where he prefers a more dark & moody look. Ultimately, he knew it’d be more important to me that the photos were edited in the way I like, so he let me choose our photographer, which I am so grateful for. He’s going to make one awesome husband, if you ask me!

We’ve also locked down my wedding dress! I wrote an entire blog on the experience, if you haven’t read it, check it out here! That was such a fun process, and honestly I wish it could’ve lasted a bit longer, but I’m so happy I was able to find my dress and veil, and they’ve been ordered in time to get them for our selected date.

Some of the other things we’ve been gotten booked are our officiant, makeup artist & hairstylist. We’ve also been able to order our Save The Dates (I know, it’s early but I want to get them in my hands and figure out how I want to dress them up for their delivery!).

So, what’s next?

There’s obviously still so much to do, but the next things on my list to get done include: selecting and setting up a meeting with a florist (this might be the most dire one, but it’s taken me quite a bit of time to figure out exactly what I want!), finalizing the bridesmaid dresses (which we have our appointment booked in, now we just wait until that date rolls around!), ordering our wedding bands, finding the perfect pair of wedding shoes, a consultation with our venue for food & décor selection, ordering the cake, and of course, any signage we plan to hang up at the wedding.

Of course, I’m pretty certain Jon’s got a few things on his to-do list as well, like pick out a suit, but most of the remaining things are on my to-do list, at my request since I love planning. Of course, there’s going to be much more to figure out later, like detailing out the plans for the day for the photographer, ordering our invitations & stationary after the menu has been finalized and so-on, but I feel like given the tight timeline, things are moving along quite nicely!

It feels like my to-do list is never ending, but planning out this wedding has been so much fun! I can’t wait until the day comes, and of course, I’ll create a full blog detailing everything from vendors to experiences, regrets and everything in between! But until then, you’ll just have to enjoy the little sneak peeks I give you here & there.
