Saying Yes to the Dress

To say that writing this blog post has me extremely excited would be the understatement of the century!!! Like so many, I’ve been dreaming of the day that I’d meet the guy that I was going to marry, get engaged and then finally get to go pick out my dream wedding dress… well, it all happened, and I’m so excited to say that I did in fact, say YES to the dress at my appointment!! Obviously there won’t be any spoilers until the day comes (sorry, but you’re going to have to wait and see what I picked), but I’m so excited to share my overall experience with you all!

Due to COVID, I had to keep who I was bringing with me to four people, so I had my mom, grandmother, future mother-in-law and maid of honour, and my bridesmaid joined us virtually, since she couldn’t make it in person anyways. We headed into my appointment, and I was able to get started right away. I had been in contact with my consultant in the weeks earlier (who, funny enough, ended up being my high school best friend!), so we had some dresses pre-picked and ready to go for me to try on.

The first dress I tried on was an A-Line style dress, with a square neckline, and safe to say, I hated it, LOL! Ultimately, it did work out because as much as I thought that an A-Line style dress is what would look best on me and make me feel the most confident, it just made me feel blah, even though it looked amazing on the model (doesn’t everything?), so we just moved onto another style.

Since the next style of dress we tried is the style of dress that I ended up going with, I’m not going to say what it is… but it was not what I expected myself to like at all. If you had asked me in the weeks prior what kind of dress I thought I was going to end up picking, it probably would’ve been the exact opposite of what I chose. We ended up trying about 6 or 7 dresses in that style, and narrowed it down to my favourite three.

The moment that we added a veil though, I just knew that the first of the final three dresses that I had narrowed it down to was the one. Once I showed everyone, we all agreed, that was the dress, which ended up being the second dress I tried on, and the first of the new style after the A-Line dress. I did end up trying on the other two dresses that I had it narrowed down to, but they just didn’t do anything for me anymore after I saw the first one with the veil. It’s funny how you really and truly do just know! I got to put “my” dress back on one more time, snap some photos of me in it (which I will be looking at every day until our wedding day, haha), and then I said YES to that dress (and the veil)!!!

Going dress shopping was such an incredible experience, and I’m so happy that I got to do it with the people I brought with me! If you’re going dress shopping anytime soon, I can’t recommend going in with an open mind enough. Like I mentioned before, the dress I ended up choosing is something I never thought I would’ve picked, and it was actually a style that my consultant suggested when we had been emailing in the weeks prior. But, once I put it on I was so excited and felt so confident — it’s true what they say; you just know when it’s the one.
