Freddie is Three!
How is it that the last three years have flown so fast? I guess they say time flies when you’re having fun, and the last three years with my sweet baby Freddie has been so, so fun. It’s hard to believe that he’s now officially not considered to be a “puppy”, but instead, an adult dog. Someone tell him that though – he definitely still acts like a puppy! 😂 I’m so grateful for every moment I get with our sweet Freddie, and it’s just insane how the day we brought him home feels like a lifetime ago now.
Much like in previous years, I obviously had to treat him like the little Queen he is (if you know, you know) and get him a big 3 balloon to celebrate his birthday! I also got him some of his favourite treats and of course, a couple of new toys for his birthday gift.
I also love to make Freddie some pup-cakes, and I promise you he’s going to enjoy them just like he has in the past, but first, he’s getting a nice steak, cut up into dog-friendly sized pieces as his little dinner treat. If you’re interested in making your dog some pup-cakes for their birthday, I’ve linked the recipe here from the original creator, but also added it in below.
Banana Pumpkin Pup-Cakes
Original Recipe from The Mindful Hapa
Ingredients - The Pup-cakes
- ½ cup super dark mashed bananas (Approx. 1.5 medium bananas)
- ½ cup pumpkin puree
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp coconut oil, melted
- ¾ cup regular or whole wheat flour
- ¼ cup rolled oats
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp baking powder
Ingredients - The Frosting
- 1½ cups greek yogurt
- 4 oz low fat cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 tbsp maple syrup, optional
Directions - The Pup-cakes
- Preheat oven to 350F and spray a mini muffin tray with coconut oil.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together mashed banana, pumpkin, egg, and coconut oil.
- Stir in flour, rolled oats, baking soda, and baking powder and stir until just combined.
- Split batter evenly between 24 mini muffins and move to the oven to bake at 350F for 12-14 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool to room temperature before frosting.
Directions - The Frosting
- In a medium bowl, use a hand blender to beat room temperature cream cheese for approx. 1 minute or until softened.
- Add greek yogurt and maple syrup (if using), and beat for another 1 minute until combined.
- Pipe frosting on top of cooled pupcakes. Alternatively, use a spatula to add a little bit to the top of each - I promise your dog won't taste the difference!
* Please note, you should always speak with your vet first about any treats that are outside your pets usual diet! These are all ingredients that my dog was okay with & we only gave him half a cupcake at a time.
Three whole years of Freddie. He’s truly the greatest thing to ever happen to us, and I couldn’t imagine our lives without him. Happiest of birthday to our little love, Freddie. ♥️
