My Favourite Fall Activities

With the official start of the fall season now about two weeks away, I can’t help but get more and more excited for my favourite time of the year. The weather is finally starting to cool off, and the trees are beginning to show signs of the new season being within arms reach – all of this is making me so excited to enjoy some of my favourite fall activities again with the people I love. Today, I want to share those favourite activities with you!

Picking Apples at the Orchard

I don’t know about you, but going to the apple orchard and picking a massive bag of fresh apples is always the kick off of the fall season for our family. My husband grew up going every September, and now it’s become something we love to do together with his family. We’re even planning on bringing Freddie with us this year! (Wish us luck…)

Going for a Fall Hike

Any other time of the year, if you asked me to go for a hike, I’d probably laugh in your face, but during the fall (and even sometimes the winter), there’s nothing I love more than taking Freddie on an easy little fall hike in a nearby forested area. The colours of the trees, the cool weather and the lack of bugs always make me enjoy being outside so much more than any other time of the year!

Visiting a Pumpkin Patch

This has been one of my favourite things to do during fall for as long as I can remember, but it’s become even more fun since Freddie came into our lives. He loves exploring amongst all of the pumpkins, seeing all of the other dogs and frankly, doesn’t he just look like he belongs amongst all of those gorgeous pumpkins?!

Decorating for Halloween

Does this count as a fall activity? I don’t know, but as far as I’m concerned it does. I am a Christmas girly through-and-through, but I love decorating and celebrating Halloween just as much as I love Christmas; they’re honestly just two completely different vibes! I’m not big on the scary decor myself, so I lean a bit more into a “spooky” vibe and love to include faux crows and other witchy elements to my home. It’s always so fun to see the space change throughout the seasons and holidays.

Checking out Local Events

Getting out and actually doing things is one thing I am desperately trying to get better about. I’m just such a homebody, and enjoy the comfort of curling up on my couch to watch Halloweentown for the 8,301st time that I’ll find myself not realizing the entire season has passed without attending any local events. Last year, my husband, brother-in-law, sister-in-law and I all checked out a local carved pumpkin event, and this year we’re all going to be heading to Oktoberfest at a local brewery, that also happens to fall on my birthday!

Having a Pumpkin Carving Contest

Last year, my husband and I decided to have a little friendly pumpkin carving contest. It was so fun, and I loved that it was bonding time with my husband that didn’t involve watching a movie or ordering dinner (both of which are also great, but we do those things a lot!). The only mistake we made was we carved our pumpkins a bit too early and they ended up rotting well before Halloween – oops! Lesson learned!

I’m almost certain I forgot something on this list – I truly am the happiest in the fall season, so I try to soak up as much of the short time we get with the perfect fall weather before winter plagues us for six months. What are some of your favourite fall activities? Let me know the comments below!

Until next time, Emily
