Giving Our Bedroom a Makeover
If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you know that I’ve been planning a little bit of a summertime refresh for our bedroom. This all started because my husband had plans for the long weekend, and I figured, “Why not swap out the bedside tables while he’s away?”, which turned into ordering a new bedframe, a rug for under the bed, and hanging up a gallery wall over our bed (oops).
Honestly, our bedroom (to me) has always felt a bit thrown together, with no real goal or intention, especially when compared to our living room, which feels more like things have been thought out, and intentionally styled together. And maybe this is because when we moved in together, it was August of 2020, and furniture was back ordered months out, and we just went with the first bed frame available (hint: this is exactly what happened). I, much to my husband’s dismay, was tired of it feeling like an afterthought, so here we are – showcasing a quick little long-weekend bedroom refresh!
Before the Refresh
I truthfully found myself not really enjoying taking photos in our bedroom because all of the furniture was so dark, nothing felt like it had any pop of colour (with the exception of the pillows that I’ve spent years trying to find the right combinations of), and honestly, just boring. The dark furniture sucks the light and life out of the space, and though the photos hanging above our bed were fine, they just felt like a placeholder.
Below, you’ll see the moodboard I mocked up with a loose idea of what I was hoping to achieve with this mini-refresh, with the four main changes being: a new bed frame, the gallery wall, the side tables & the rug. Thankfully, I already had the bedside tables from when I lived at home, and my cousin took our black ones off our hands for his new place, so that just left the rug, buying a couple more frames to finish off the gallery wall & the bed frame. All of this came together very quickly, and by the weekend, everything was ready to go.
After the Refresh
… And here we have it! On Sunday, I tackled the smaller projects – the gallery wall, and the side tables. Pro-tip, if you need photos printed and don’t necessarily care if they’re the highest quality, utilizing your local Staples copy & print centre for same-day prints! As I previously mentioned, my cousin took our old black side tables off our hands, we put the new ones in and then saved the bigger projects, our bed frame & the rug for Monday.
Once Monday afternoon rolled around, we got to work by cleaning out under our bed (which, oh my god, do not wait three years to do if you have a dog… it was disgusting with all of the dog hair), disassembled our old bed, laid down the new rug and then built the new bed frame! It was a lot of work, but I am SO happy with the final results!
I’m hoping to get myself some new pillow covers for our Euro shams eventually since the colours aren’t quite what I’m looking for, but overall, I am thrilled with the way this little refresh turned out! Though a vast majority of the items in our bedroom come from HomeSense, I’ve linked anything that’s currently available to purchase: Bed Frame, Lamps (Set of 2), Side Tables, Faux Olive Tree (5.5’), Peace & Love Pillow Cases, Rug (similar).
I’m so, so happy with how our little makeover for this room turned out. It finally feels like things were intentionally put together in the room, and has a similar feeling to the rest of our home & the spaces within it. Thanks for reading along!
