My 2023 Beauty Routine

In late December, I had posted about some trends that I was predicting for 2023 and one of those was the continuous love of natural, care-free makeup looks. Paired with that, I think fresh faced, dewy skin & an overall emphasis on skincare will also continue throughout the year. Honestly, over the course of the last few years, my beauty routine, including both skincare and makeup has changed a lot! I suffered from adult acne, and had to stop using the skincare products that I had been using for years since it was no longer helping keep my skin clear. In fact, it was hurting more than it was helping! So, let’s start by talking about the current skincare products I’m using and what skin issues I’m currently focusing on.

My Skincare Routine

I have to start by saying, Rodan + Fields Unblemish line truly changed my skin. I was suffering from some of the worst acne I had experienced since I was a teenager, and nothing I seemed to do made a difference. Read more about my experience with it here. Now that I’m getting older, and I’m officially at the point where collagen is breaking down & aging has begun, it’s time to slow down the process starting with using anti-aging products like C E Peptides from Vivier Skin (though, I will say, I probably won’t be repurchasing this exact product as it’s out of my price range, but the product is amazing!), as well as a good eye cream. The most important thing in keeping your skin not only young, but healthy is SPF! This is another topic I’ve blogged about & you can read more here, but I always ensure that I have at least one product with SPF in it on my skin daily.

My Makeup Routine

Truthfully, throughout the pandemic, I found myself falling out of love with makeup. It’s something I once used to love, and then of course, COVID hit & everything changed, but when Selena Gomez launched Rare Beauty, I was intrigued again. The beauty scene has definitely changed & leans far more into the natural looking makeup, and I found myself loving Rare Beauty products for this exact reason. I’ve always been a big fan of the foundation, concealer and brow pencil, but I’ve also recently picked up her new blush as well as the bronzer and I am totally in love with how they work with my skin.

Now all of this being said, Rare Beauty is unfortunately not considered to be a clean beauty brand, which does disappoint me, and I have noticed talc in some of their products. I’ve decided on my purchases from Rare Beauty though for two reasons: 1) I don’t wear makeup as frequently as I once did. My skin almost never has anything on it now. And 2) their products are sold in the EU which have much stricter rules & regulations around product ingredients. So, even though this isn’t a clean brand, I feel more comfortable using their products than others, and I actively avoid the select products that do contain talc.

Additionally, the brand stands for a lot of great initiatives including mental health, sustainability (including minimal plastic packaging – almost everything I’ve purchased from them only contains paper packaging), and they are cruelty-free, vegan and paraben-free, all of which are amazing things!

There you have it! This is my current beauty routine and one that I feel pretty confident will take me through most of 2023. It’s crazy to me that only a few short years ago, the beauty trends were so different! At one point, I used to put on a full face of makeup every single day and now, I’m leaning more into the natural, everyday, dewy look! I’m sure we’ll see a return to a full face of makeup again, but for now, I’m embracing this simple trend.
