How To Style One Sweater Three Ways
I think we can all relate to the fact that there’s multiple pieces in our closet that we know that we can style more than one way, but we always just seem to fall back to the same old outfit since it’s easy, especially when you’re in a rush in the morning on your way to work, it’s what we’re used to, and it looks cute! Well, this post today is going to help you break that habit, and show you how you can take one basic sweater, and style it for three different situations - for work, for a coffee outing, and comfy-casual. For this post, I’m going to be styling the Aerie Chenille V-Neck Oversized Sweater, in Empire Cream. If you love this sweater, but not in the white, it also comes in a ton of other colours, but I’ve also listed some other great sweater options at the bottom of this post, so check those out! Let’s get started with how to style this sweater for the office:
1. For The Office
1. Aerie Chenille V-Neck Oversized Sweater | 2. Cigarette Trousers | 3. Chunky Necklace | 4. Gold Watch | 5. Pointed Toe Nude Heels | 6. Dangle Earrings
I know I’ve definitely mentioned in other blog posts that I’m lucky enough to work in an office where I don’t necessarily have to dress in business-casual clothing. I get to wear leggings and a sweater pretty much all the time, if I want to. But I do know that most of you probably do work in offices with business-casual dress codes, so this look is going to be styled accordingly. To start, since the sweater is oversized, I’d recommend ordering a size down no matter what way you plan on wearing it, but especially if you’d like to wear it to work. It’ll still be oversized, but not look too slouchy - when something is too oversized, it can look lazy and sloppy.
Since the sweater is on the larger-fit side, I’d recommend pairing the sweater with a pair of cigarette style pants that are more fitted but not too tight, and tucking the front of the sweater to the pants to make it a little more put together. If you let the oversized sweater just hang, it could end up looking too laid back for the office. If you’re not a big fan of having the very front of the sweater tucked in, try tucking it in closer to the side. To class-up this outfit to an even more business-look, add a pair of heels, either pointed-toe or open-toe to make yourself appear taller, and ready to take on the world. Finish off this outfit by throwing on either a pair of dangle-earrings, or a chunky necklace with a nice watch that’s in good condition.
2. For a Coffee Outing
1. Aerie Chenille V-Neck Oversized Sweater | 2. Peacoat | 3. Jeggings | 4. Gold Watch | 5. Heeled Chelsea Boots | 6. Huggies | 7. Chain Necklace
Weather this is a coffee date with friends, a significant other, or maybe a new love, you can’t go wrong with a comfy outfit that also looks super trendy & stylish. I’m not sure about anyone else, but my motto is to always dress like you’re going to run into your ex, so I always like to make sure I feel the best that I possibly can, and a nice cozy sweater, especially in the cooler months is where I love to start.
If I’m going to be heading out on a coffee outing, I’d start by pairing this sweater with a pair of jeggings. Like I mentioned above, in the office look, since the sweater is so oversized and slouchy, you should always pair it with some more fitted bottoms. Two loose-fitted items together can end up looking lazy and maybe too much on the comfortable side. With jeggings, you’ll get the fitted look, but they’ll be much more comfortable than an actual pair of denim jeans! For shoes, I’d pair these with a pair of slightly-heeled chelsea boots so that you can comfortably walk around if you need to, but also still look put together & trendy. If you’re heading out in a cooler time of the year where you need a jacket, I would opt to throw a peacoat over this look - it’ll appear very European & put together! Finish off your look with a pair of studs or huggies for earrings, a nice watch & a simple chain necklace.
3. Comfy & Casual
1. Aerie Chenille V-Neck Oversized Sweater | 2. Leopard Sneakers | 3. Denim Jacket | 4. Leggings
Lastly, probably my most favourite way to wear a big, oversized sweater - with leggings! Just because you’re rocking an oversized sweater and leggings, doesn’t mean you need to look slouchy and like you’re not trying though. Again, because the bottoms are fitted, it’s going to create a nice balance with the loose-fitting top, and you can compliment the look with an oversized jean jacket on top! For shoes, I’d personally choose to rock some sneaker-type shoes for comfort, but they also look extremely trendy. To finish the look off, add a baseball hat or throw your hair in a scrunchie top knot to look both extremely comfy, and put together.
Does anyone else have a go-to sweater that they love to wear as many different ways as possible? This one I love because it can be both dressed up with some work pants or a fitted skirt so easily, but also be dressed down with leggings for a more casual, comfy look. Hope everyone enjoyed this post & got some new sweater-wearing-inspiration - see you again on Friday for a new post! Xo.
