Products To Beat The Winter Blues

Statistics say that 2 to 3% of Canadians will experience Seasonal Affective Disorder in their lifetime*, so it’s safe to say that quite a few of us will feel some sort of “winter blues”. Today I wanted to compile some of my favourite things to help me overcome any days that I’m feeling those winter blues hit me. Of course, I’d like to say that these are just products, and things that make me feel good, and for some people, SAD may require medication or therapy. If you feel like you need this, please contact a medical professional! Let’s jump into these items:

Motivation to Move

Starting with the Apple Watch, along with a subscription to Apple Fitness+. Am I a workout person? No. I’m not even going to pretend like I get even an ounce of joy in going to a workout. I never have and I never will. But, on the odd time I like to get moving (and for those of you that do enjoy it regularly), I’d highly recommend investing in an Apple Watch & Apple Fitness+ to do workouts from home, while tracking your goals.

A Happy Light

If your work from home set up is in a dark setting, it can easily (and quickly) begin to feel less than desirable to get out of bed in the morning & get your work started. If you haven’t already purchased yourself one, get a Happy Light. If you don’t already know, the Happy Light is designed to mimic sunlight, and therefore makes you feel happier! Now, you may think you need to point it directly at you, but you don’t. Just point it in a direction that you can see it, and that will do the trick!

Makeup Pick-Me-Up

Going quickly into the beauty category is my current favourite makeup product, the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush. I’ve definitely fallen in love with all of the Rare Beauty products that I’ve used so far, but this blush takes the cake. Even on days when I don’t feel like putting on makeup, throwing on a little bit of this blush just makes me feel like a normal person again.

Stay Hydrated with a High-Quality Water Bottle

A key part to staying healthy is drinking enough water, and of course, you want a good quality water bottle to bring everywhere, and keep your water to the temperature that suits you. In comes my favourite water bottle, the Yeti 36oz Rambler. It comes in tons of colours so there’s something for everyone, and most importantly, it’s vacuum insulated to keep your water whatever temperature you like it.

Heavy Duty Hand Cream

Combine the cold, dry winter air with the fact that I’m washing my hands more than usual due to the pandemic, my hands are sore, itchy, dry, red & very cracked. A saving grace for me and my extremely dry hands has been the Saje Safe Hands Antimicrobial Hand Cream. The thick cream really seems to moisturize my hands and relieve some of the pain from the soreness, and not to mention, smells great.

Fresh Flowers

And last, but certainly not least — fresh flowers! This may be a personal thing for me, but nothing brings my spirits up quite like a bouquet of real, fresh flowers. In fact, I have some on my dining table right now, and it’s made the space feel more alive & colourful! If fresh flowers are something that brings you a lot of joy, go treat yourself to some right now, okay?

Well there you have it - my list of products that help me to beat my winter blues. Do you have a product that helps you get through those dreary winter days? Let me know in the comments below! See you again on Wednesday for a new blog at 1pm EST.
