Quick Tips to Cozy Up Your Home this Fall
Yes, it may be August, but at the time that I’m writing this, it’s currently 17ºC (that’s about 62ºF for all of my American readers!), and I’m bundled up in a sweater with warm socks, sipping on a hot cup of coffee and living my absolute best fall-obsessed life! Autumn is officially around the corner, and I cannot stop thinking about all of the ways I’m going to be cozying-up my space in just a matter of a couple of weeks when September arrives.
I’m an absolute sucker for making my space feel as cozy as possible… in fact, I’ve already started doing some of these things because I just love feeling the warm and fuzzies in my home so much! I always look forward to when the weather cools down enough to have our windows open all day, and really lean into the warmth of the season. So, let’s talk about some quick ways you can also make your home cozy this fall season.
01. Candles Everywhere
Yes, I know, it’s obvious but candles (especially ones that have fall scents) are a guarantee to make your space nice and cozy. Of course, candles are also a fire hazard, so please always ensure you’ve got an eye on a candle. If you’re someone like me who enjoys the ambience that they create, battery operated candles are so life-like now!
02. Textures & Patterns
Cozy textures and patterns are a must if you ask me! Some of my favourites include plaid, gingham, boucle and of course, you can’t go wrong with anything soft & fuzzy. Learning to mix these patterns & textures with warm & cool toned fall colours is sure to make your space cozy & autumnal.
03. Don’t Turn on the Big Light!
The dreaded big light… Now, don’t get me wrong, the big light can be super useful! But when it comes to creating a cozy space, a lot of people wonder why they can’t seem to get what they’re looking for, and I find a lot of the time, it’s because they use the big light. If you want to lean into the warmth of the fall season, use lots of mood lighting instead of the big overhead light, and always ensure that you’ve got warm-white bulbs!
04. Bring the Outdoors Inside
Yes, this one is quite obvious, but bringing the outdoors inside is one of my favourite ways to make it feel autumnal and cozy in my home. Other than the obvious – looking at you, pumpkins – some ways I love to embrace this is by having seasonal flowers including dahlias, sunflowers and mums.
05. Seasonal Decor
Again, this one is really quite obvious but making sure you incorporate some nods to fall in your seasonal decor is a must for really leaning into the coziness of the season. And that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to have pumpkins everywhere (though who doesn’t want that?)! Add some warm toned towels to your kitchen, or a brown table runner to your dining room. Maybe even throw a fall wreath on your door. Adding tones, textures & nods to the season throughout your home is sure to make it cozy!
