10 Ways to Romanticize Your Life this Fall Season

The fall season is right around the corner, and I have to say, it’s without a doubt my absolute favourite season! I know what you’re thinking… it’s everyone’s favourite season, but I’m choosing to blame my fall birthday as the reason I’m so obsessed, okay?! There’s just something so magical about the change from summer to autumn… and one of my favourite things to do during this change is to romanticize the hell out of my life!

Fall 2023 was a tough one for me, if I’m being honest. I experienced my first ever lay off, and was in a very dark place for the remainder of the year because of it. I didn’t enjoy my favourite season at all, in fact, I felt myself wishing it away. Well — not this year! Here are 10 ways that I will be romanticizing my life this upcoming autumn season & you should too.

01. TREAT YOURSELF TO SOME FALL FLORALS

To start, I am a huge believer in just buying yourself the dang flowers! Flowers are something that bring me a lot of joy, and I know they bring a lot of others joy as well, but so many of us feel like they’re a waste because the inevitably die. If it brings you joy, romanticize your life & buy yourself the bouquet. If you want in-season flowers, grab some sunflowers, dahlias or mums!

02. HAVE A FALL & HALLOWEEN MOVIE MARATHON

Does this really need any further explanation?! I love getting cozied up on the couch with a cup of tea and watching some fall & spooky season movies. Some of my favourites to watch are Harry Potter, the Halloweentown series, Twitches, Hotel Transylvania series & of course, Hocus Pocus!

03. DECORATE FOR THE SEASON

Is it a little bit of effort? Absolutely. But is it completely worth it to enjoy the season & romanticize your life a bit? Heck yes! Decorate your home with the coziest fall pieces like pumpkins, warm toned blankets & pillows, and of course, candles are a must! Here are a few of my favourite fall & Halloween pieces that I’ve been eyeing this year:

04. BAKE A SWEET TREAT (OR TWO…)

This is one thing I’m guilty about not doing enough, even though I love doing it! Baking myself a sweet little fall themed treat from time-to-time is the epitome of romanticizing your life in the fall. I recently made myself some pumpkin spice pancakes, and now that apple season is here, I’m planning on baking up a few pies because… well, why not?!

05. SPEND TIME IN NATURE

Possibly one of my top 3 favourite ways to enjoy the fall season, and romanticize my life in the fall is so just get outside. When the weather is cool, the bugs have returned to the hell that they crawled out from, and the trees are the most glorious shades of yellow, orange & red, it’s hard not to feel so grateful for life! I love spending time outside during the fall season, and it’s made even better when I get to bring my dog, Freddie, along with me.

06. CHALLENGE YOURSELF TO TRULY GET DRESSED

I know what you’re thinking – what an odd thing to say? But what I mean by this is challenge yourself to wear something other than leggings and a big cozy sweater! Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love that vibe too, and who doesn’t love being comfortable? But if there’s one season that’s my favourite for putting together cute looks, it’s definitely fall.

07. TAKE PART IN FALL ACTIVITIES WITH YOUR FAMILY & FRIENDS!

Go to the pumpkin patch, pick apples at the apple orchard, get lost in a corn maze – do it all! Nothing is guaranteed in life, so take your evenings & weekends, spend time with your friends and do these fun activities. These are the things we look forward to most, and then almost never do, so make sure these events get out of the group chat!

08. GET COZY

This needs no explanation. Fall is all about getting cozy! I know I’m the unpopular opinion here, but one of my favourite things about fall is the darkness. I love when the sun sets at 7pm, and the rest of the night is set up for pure, comfortable bliss. Lighting a candle, turning on a dimmable light and setting the cozy mood while my dog snuggles up on the couch beside me is just the best, in my opinion.

09. READ A FALL OR SPOOKY SEASON BOOK

Something that I’ve gotten super into this year has been reading. In fact, I’m currently making my way through my 24th book of the year! Twelve-year old me wouldn’t believe it if I told her that she’d be a reader, but alas – here we are. Reading really puts me in the spirit of the season, whether it be summer, fall or winter, so getting into a cute, spooky-season (or fall romance!) book is one of my favourite past times. Here are a few on my TBR this year:

10. CURATE THE PERFECT PLAYLIST

One thing you can always catch me doing at the end of the night during the fall season is lighting some candles, turning off all of the “big lights”, throwing on my pjs, getting cuddled up on the couch with my book and listening to the perfect fall-inspired playlist. If making playlists isn’t your thing, don’t worry! I’m sharing mine with you today. You can find both the Apple Music & Spotify playlists here!

There you have it! 10 ways to romanticize your life this fall season. I will undeniably be doing all of these things myself this season & I highly recommend you do too. You’ll never look back and wish you hadn’t leaned into the season, and spend more time with loved ones while doing your favourite things!

Until next time, Emily
