The Best Christmas Cookies to Make This Weekend
For pretty much all of my childhood, it wasn’t truly Christmas time until I made a batch of my favourite holiday treat — sourdough cookies! I remember I used to make these with my family, and bring some into my friends at school, have them try it & then drop the “there’s sour cream in them” shocker on them. Of course, us being kids, my friends were always so shocked that a sweet treat could be made with sour cream and taste great.
This recipe is a really easy one to make, the longest part is waiting for them to chill in the fridge and thankfully they don’t take long to bake in the oven, because by that point, I’m ravenous for them!
Before we jump into the recipe, you’ll want to make sure you have everything you need to successfully make the cookies. Nothing complicated is really needed, but you’ll want to make sure you have a large mixing bowl, measuring cups, measuring spoons, an electric hand mixer, a rolling pin, a baking large sheet & some festive cookie cutters. Once you’ve got all of your must-have tools, let’s get started!

- 5 1/2 cups of All Purpose Flour
- 2 tsps of Baking Powder
- 2 tsps of Baking Soda

- 1 tsp Almond Extract (Use immitation Almond Extract if there's a nut allergy)
- 1/4 tsp of Salt
- 3 Large Eggs
Directions
- In a large mixed bowl, combine sugar, sour cream, eggs, butter & crisco. Beat at medium speed with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, vanilla extract, almond extract and & salt. Beat at low speed until soft dough forms. Cover bowl with wrap and chill in the fridge for 2 hours.
- Heat oven to 350°F. On a floured surface, roll your dough out until it's about 1/4" thick. Use your cookie cutters to cut shapes. Place cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake 6 to 8 minutes, until edges are light golden brown. Remove from oven, and let cool for 15 minutes. Enjoy!
If you end up giving this recipe a try, please let me know in the comments! These cookies are something I make almost every year (my laziness, permitting), and I have such fond memories of enjoying these cookies each Christmas. Enjoy!
