The Ultimate Guide to Creating a Cottagecore Home

Disclaimer: All opinions are my own, and I am not a professional interior designer or decorator.

Over the last few years, I personally have found myself struggling to figure out what my home decor style was. I often can fall into the trap of feeling a little too “inspired” by others, and it ultimately ended up being that I never felt like I could make my space feel like it was mine, or that I truly loved every part of it. In the last year, I feel like I finally nailed it down to what I love, and though I’d describe it as modern-granny’s-farmhouse-chic, a more common term probably would be cottagecore.

If you’re not familiar with the cottagecore trend (though, who isn’t, really?), it’s essentially what you’re thinking… cottage vibes! Think lots of patterns, tacky [but tasteful] knick-knacks and decor, more traditional styles for your furniture – things you would see in your grandma’s cottage. I feel like I fell into style after realizing I was looking for that warm, cozy home feeling I remember from when I was a kid, and though that was a long time ago, and styles have certainly changed, I grew up in a home with a bit of farm-cottage vibe, so I wanted to incorporate that style into my home as an adult!

So, you may be wondering – what the heck can I share with you today that will help you in creating that vibe or feeling in my own home? Well, I can confidently say I spent a couple of hours looking for all of the things that I have in my home that’s available to purchase (a lot of the items in my home are from places like thrift stores or HomeSense unfortunately!), and things that are on my list of wants, and collected them all into sections for your convenience. Though I am by no means a professional, all of these items scream “cottagecore” to me, and I just adore them. I will admit, I tend to lean more into the cool-tone colour scheme, particularly blues & greens, but there’s a bit of every colour scheme in there for you!

While scrolling, did you happen to notice a few items that are in fact, items in my home in there?! I tried to include as much as I possibly could, but one item that I just had to give a special shoutout to is my absolutely adorable Goose Bathmat that I got while I was in London this past summer (2024). It’s currently not available in the full bathmat size, but they offer it in 3 other sizes! Now, to get my hands on the towels…
