Tips & Tricks to Elevate Your Space

So, you’re looking to elevate your space, huh? Well, you’ve come to the right place! While I will admit, I’m by no means a professional, I do like to think that I have a pretty good idea of what looks good, and why. My background may be in graphic design, but the funny thing about different areas of design, whether it be graphic design, interior design, and everything in between, they all share a lot of the same principles as to what makes good design. Alas, let’s get into some of the tips and tricks I use in my own home to elevate the visuals (and feelings!) of my space.

Textures, Shapes, Patterns & Sizes

Textures, and even patterns are so important in making your space not only just look good, but feel good too. I’m sure some of you have looked at a cozy room and wondered why it made you feel so good, but couldn’t quite pinpoint what it was about the space that made it feel that way. Well, even if you haven’t – the answer is lots of textures. Going hand-in-hand with textures is ensuring there’s different sizes and patterns of pillows; just trust me – your eyes will love this. And of course, you can’t forget a cozy blanket – that’s the cherry on top!

Matted vs. Unmatted Photos

So you’ve got some new art you want to frame and you’re wondering whether you want to buy a frame with, or without a matte. Or maybe you’ve never even thought about it before now; either way – I’m here to give you some food for thought. I personally prefer to frame all of my large photos that hang on the wall within a frame that has a matte. It gives a bit more of a classic, traditional look that I love. If you want a bit more of a modern look, going without a matte is the way to go. Still not sure? Check out the example below!

Bring the Outdoors, In

Whether you want to bring in real, beautifully scented pieces of greenery, or you couldn’t be bothered to shake out all of those bugs from the flowers, adding some greenery to your space is key to making it feel alive. Try looking at your space without any type of plant, or greenery, and then add some of those plants back in & you’ll instantly notice a difference between your before & after. And I promise, even the fake stuff does the trick – that’s what I have almost everywhere in my own space!

So there you have it – these are the three main tricks I like to use to elevate the spaces throughout my home. The best part is these tips can be used in every type of room, from bedrooms, living rooms & dining rooms. Sometimes you’ll need to switch out the idea of a textured pillow for a textured table runner, but I think you get the idea!

until next time, Emily
