Freddie Turns Two!
I may or may not be fully sobbing writing this but today is Freddie’s 2nd birthday and I am not okay! When did my little baby bear become a two year old dog?! I feel like the last two years has just flown by, and it’s like I blinked & suddenly Freddie was fully grown, being an adult pain in the ass instead of just a puppy pain in the ass. Even though I hate how quickly time is going, I’m so grateful for every moment I have with my sweet soul-dog.
Much like last year (if you haven’t read Freddie’s one-year birthday blog, check it out here!), I obviously had to treat him like a little Queen (if you know, you know) and get him a bunch of balloons and a big 2 to celebrate his second birthday! I also got him some of his favourite treats and of course, a couple of new toys for his birthday gift.
Last year, I also made Freddie some pup-cakes but unfortunately, with our upcoming fall wedding, starting a new job, doing some part-time work and freelance work, I didn’t get to it this year (I promise he’ll forgive me!), but we did treat him to a homemade cheeseburger! If you’re interested in making your dog some pup-cakes, I’ve linked the recipe here but I figured I’d add it to this blog as well!
Banana Pumpkin Pup-Cakes
Original Recipe from The Mindful Hapa
Ingredients - The Pup-cakes
- ½ cup super dark mashed bananas (Approx. 1.5 medium bananas)
- ½ cup pumpkin puree
- 1 large egg
- 2 tbsp coconut oil, melted
- ¾ cup regular or whole wheat flour
- ¼ cup rolled oats
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp baking powder
Ingredients - The Frosting
- 1½ cups greek yogurt
- 4 oz low fat cream cheese, room temperature
- 1 tbsp maple syrup, optional
Directions - The Pup-cakes
- Preheat oven to 350F and spray a mini muffin tray with coconut oil.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together mashed banana, pumpkin, egg, and coconut oil.
- Stir in flour, rolled oats, baking soda, and baking powder and stir until just combined.
- Split batter evenly between 24 mini muffins and move to the oven to bake at 350F for 12-14 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool to room temperature before frosting.
Directions - The Frosting
- In a medium bowl, use a hand blender to beat room temperature cream cheese for approx. 1 minute or until softened.
- Add greek yogurt and maple syrup (if using), and beat for another 1 minute until combined.
- Pipe frosting on top of cooled pupcakes. Alternatively, use a spatula to add a little bit to the top of each - I promise your dog won't taste the difference!
* Please note, you should always speak with your vet first about any treats that are outside your pets usual diet! These are all ingredients that my dog was okay with & we only gave him half a cupcake at a time.
I can hardly believe it’s already been two years of Freddie. Can time slow down a little, please? He’s truly such a light in our lives and always keeps us entertained with his shenanigans. Here’s to many more years with our sweet babe — Happy Birthday Freddie!
