My Favourite Fall Home Decor Pieces

I would be lying if I said I didn’t already start decorating for the fall season… in fact, the first weekend in August, I put out a fake pumpkin in the living room. I just needed a little joy, okay?! But in all seriousness, we’re almost into September now, which means that summer is on her way out & fall is making her yearly debut once again, and that means it’s time to start making our spaces cozy again! I truly cannot wait to be able to put away the air conditioner and just open the windows to cool down our place, and better yet, have the windows open while it’s rainy and chilly on a fall weekend while I lay in bed, wrapped in blankets watching a Halloween movie… ugh, the dream.

Like I’m sure you can tell, to me fall is all about being cozy & embracing the chill in the air. My favourite way to embrace it is just by making my space as cozy as I can, and there’s a few ways I like to do this — with textiles like throw blankets & pillows, candles, and of course, adding some warm & inviting colours into these areas.

Pillows & Blankets

Yes, it’s probably the most obvious way to make a space feel cozy, I know, but I’ve got to talk about it anyways! I love to add pillows to my living room & bedroom that add some warmth to the space through texture & even colour. Using colours like a mustard yellow, or even a rusty pink if the typical fall colours aren’t your jam can really warm up a room when the air is cold. If neutrals are more your style, you can try adding in pillows with fun textures like fuzziness or a cable knit material. The same principles apply to any blankets you want to add to your space. Personally, I like to add in a bit of a cooler tone like a sage green to balance out the warmth a bit, but more warm tones also work!

Pumpkins

Nothing truly says fall quite like lots of pumpkins everywhere, right?! And I don’t just mean the real ones. I love getting real pumpkins to go outside (hint: after the season is over, lots of farms accept your old; but not rotten, pumpkins to feed their animals! Donate them if you can), but having real pumpkins inside just doesn’t make sense. I love to fill my space with not only faux, decorative pumpkins, but all sorts of pumpkin-shaped items including soup bowls, placemats, candles and even pillows!

Fall Florals

In my opinion, flowers truly can make a space feel so colourful and lively, even if they’re faux arrangements. In fact, as much as I wholeheartedly love real flowers, fake flowers really are the way to go in the long run. They can easily be stored, swapped (if they’re not glued into a vase), and if they’re well taken care of, can last a long time! Plus, they’re generally less expensive than a bouquet of real flowers, which ultimately end up dying anyways.

Candles

Lastly, if you’re really looking to warm up a space, especially during those cool-weather months, candles are truly the way to go. My personal favourite candles to get are seasonally scented ones (ex. chai, pumpkin spice, etc.), but if unscented is your preference, it’s not all about the smell to warm up the space. Just remember to always keep a close eye on your candles, keep them away from children & pets, and do not fall asleep while they’re burning!

So there you have it! Some of my favourite fall home decor pieces for the season. What are some of your favourite ways to cozy up your space for the cooler months? Let me know in the comments below!
