Thanksgiving Decor 101
With Thanksgiving here in Canada only 10 days away, I thought it was only fitting to start talking about one of the coziest holidays of the year (followed by Christmas, of course), and particularly, decorating for the holiday!
I’m totally a seasonal decorator, and love decorating for fall, winter, and all of the holidays that fall into those seasons, so it’s no surprise that when I start thinking about decorating for Thanksgiving, I don’t just think about the table, but the entire home, including the kitchen, and the utensils that I use in there. Of course though, since the holiday is so heavily based around a food that usually involves a good old couch nap afterwards, we had to start there.

For Thanksgiving Dinner
I’m not necessarily into the big pops of bright and bold colours, but there’s something about the coziness of the fall — the burnt oranges, the yellows... I dream about it from the moment the season ends! So, of course I had to work some of those bold colours into my ideal dinner setting. My tip would be to keep everything neutral, including the placemats, chargers & dinner plates, so that not only the decor pops, but also the delicious dinner!

Throughout the Home
Though this Thanksgiving will probably be another quiet one, if you are having guests, I’m a firm believer that the Thanksgiving feeling should be set right at the door, and throughout the home; not just at the dinner table! Greet your guests with a welcoming doormat & seasonal wreath, and as they’re waiting for dinner (or nursing a turkey coma after), set the feeling with some candles in hurricane lanterns, a comfy pillow and a variety of faux pumpkins throughout the space.

In the Kitchen
Another space I love to set the Thanksgiving mood is in the kitchen. Since so many of this holiday revolves around spending time in the kitchen, what better way to keep the chef excited than making their workspace feel just as welcoming as the rest of the home? From cooking the dinner in a pumpkin cocette, making a seasonal dessert in the shape of muffins using a baking tin or sipping your post-meal coffee in the perfect mug, no matter what room you’re in, who doesn’t want to feel the coziness of Thanksgiving?
There you have it! My ideal way I’d decorate my entire home for one of my favourite holidays ever. It may be one of my favourites since it’s around my birthday… it also may be because of all of the delicious foods — keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming food-related Thanksgiving blog that I don’t think you’ll want to miss!
