Work From Home Self-Care Tips

Remember back in March 2020, when we were sent to work from home from home for two weeks, and we all thought we’d be back in the office by April? Ha. I love how naive we were then. Well, it’s been almost a year now that we’ve been working from home, and let’s be honest, not everyone thrives on this kind of work environment - you don’t see your coworkers in person, your family interrupts you all day and for some, your office might be your living room or bedroom.

Let’s face it, working from home can be tough sometimes, and if you’re not already, you should be putting yourself first when it comes to making sure you’re in a good mental and physical space. Today, I want to share my tips that have been helping me successfully work from home, while taking care of myself, from the inside, out.

Log Off When Your Work Day is Done

I cannot stress this one enough. With working from home, it’s so easy to get lost in your work, and end up working an extra 30 minutes, sometimes even an hour. But, let me tell you, that will catch up with you. Unless you have to put in the overtime, do yourself a huge favour & log off when you are done work. Don’t pressure yourself into working more just because you can.

Get Out of the House

Easier said than done, I know, especially while we’re in a lockdown… but it’s as simple as going for a walk. If you have kids, or a dog (or both!), get outside for 30 minutes or so and take a walk together. I promise, you’ll feel so much better both physically & mentally. A change of scenery is always a good thing.

Take Your Entire Lunch Break

Stop. Working. Through. Your. Lunch. I made this an absolute must when I started working from home – I was going to take my entire lunch break, and I wasn’t going to answer a phone call during that time. That is your legally obligated time to yourself! I’ve kept to it, and let me tell you, it makes my lunchtime far more enjoyable. If someone calls, you can call them back when you’re back to work.

Have an Organized & Inspirational Workspace

This is one that might not seem as important to a lot of people, but a workspace that makes you feel happy, will make you a happier worker, make your day go by faster & you might even get excited to start work for the day, haha. But in all seriousness, take some time & set up your workspace (if you can) to bring you some peace & joy - it’ll go farther than you think. I hope this blog post gives you some help & guidance if you’re struggling with working from home. I know, it’s not easy. As someone who always wanted to work from home, I find I’m struggling with not having any socialization — in a normal world, I’d at least be able to see people & go to the store without being scared! But, we’re going to get through this — the vaccine is here & coming to all of us soon! Stay safe & have a lovely weekend everyone.
