10 Homemade Gift Ideas for the Crafty Gift-Giver
I know I’ve been sharing a ton of gift guides this holiday season, but there is truly nothing like receiving a homemade gift. Sure, a present purchased from a store is fantastic as well, but as someone whose love language is gift giving, creating the perfect present for someone is my way of showing them how well I know them, and how much I love them.
Overall, I do consider myself a relatively “crafty” individual. I’ve recently taken up embroidery, and I’ve tried my hand at painting pottery (these may or may not be hints to a couple of things on this list!), and I find myself wanting to gift more of these kind of items during the upcoming holiday season, so I figured, why not share some homemade gift ideas in this blog with you?
01. BAKED GOODS
If you like to bake, everyone loves a sweet holiday treat! In fact, I think we may be gifting some baked goods ourselves this year. Some ideas for treats to gift include: scones, croissants, cookies, cornbread, and why not throw in some homemade jam? If you’re looking for a recipe, try these delicious Sourdough Cookies that I make every Christmas!
02. POTTERY AND/OR PAINTED POTTERY
You may or may not have seen that I recently painted some cottage bowls at a local pottery-painting store, and I definitely think these would make fantastic gift idea for the holidays. Even better if you can make the pottery piece yourself first!
03. SEW A PILLOWCASE (AND GET AN INSERT!)
If you have some basic knowledge of a sewing machine, why not make a decorative pillow case!? There’s so many incredible patterns and fabrics out there, and you can even add tassels to the edges! Just don’t forget to include a pillow insert (if needed).
04. CRAFT A PIECE OF JEWELRY
We’re in the age of friendship bracelets being made for the eras tour, so why not use some of those beads to create more custom pieces of jewelry? Bracelets, necklaces, earrings – there’s so many options to create something truly unique to each recipient.
05. CREATE A CUSTOM ORNAMENT
Whether you want to paint, use stickers or decoupage a custom ornament, this makes for such a fun keepsake! Maybe you want to commemorate a special memory, travel experience or just want to create something unique to gift this season; regardless, a custom ornament makes for a super cute homemade gift.
06. MAKE A CANDLE
You can order a kit online, or if you happen to have a local business who can help you make your own candle, a homemade candle that’s customized for the recipient is such a thoughtful, personalized gift to give. Just make sure you do in fact know what kinds of scents they like!
07. DECOUPAGE BOTTLE OF WINE (OR DRINK OF CHOICE!)
If you haven’t seen decoupaged wine bottles before, it’s seriously so cool and can be so pretty! If someone you know has a bar cart that they love to display, decoupage the bottle of wine (or drink of choice) using patterned napkins to create something truly unique.
08. MAKE A CUSTOM EMBROIDERY
This has been one of my personal favourite ways to create a homemade gift this holiday season! There are so many embroidery patterns out there, meaning there’s something for everyone, no matter what their style is.
09. CREATE A CUSTOM SEED BUNDLE
If you’re looking for a fun gift for a gardener, creating a custom seed bundle with their favourite flowers is such a fun idea! Though I will admit, this isn’t easy unless you know how to do seed saving, but don’t worry, you can order seeds from local flower farms.
10. FRAMED PHOTOS OF YOUR FAVOURITE MEMORIES
Another gift that I’ve given plenty of times in the past is a framed photo that features some of our favourite memories. This is also a really great option particularly for hard-to-shop-for family members for if you just got married, or got a professional photoshoot done!
And there are 10 homemade gift ideas for the crafty gift-giver this holiday season! Let me know in the comments below if you plan to gift any of these type of items, or if you have any more ideas – I know I love to have a running list of things to create and give as gifts on hand, so the more the merrier!
